The incident occurred as officers from Perth Amboy and Rahway Police Departments were serving a search warrant at a residence on Broad Street and Maple Avenue. The suspect, Angel Santiago, opened fire on the officers, hitting the detective three times in the leg. The officers returned fire, striking Santiago in the leg before taking him into custody.
